Project from members of Herrek that reworks old biblical verses as documented in Genève in the 16th century. 1551 consists of eight indiepop/folk arrangements built around the original choral verses written down that same year. At times it brings in mind the introspective moments on Grizzly Bears` Yellow House, that same reflective atmosphere, a mixture of acoustic and electric instruments and ‘heavenly’ vocal harmonies. But Genève offers a more stripped down and less ‘ambitious’ approach. Of course the religious-devotional aspect of this release provides for totally different results. The short duration of the pieces and disc, (eight tracks in just over 20 minutes) underlines its modest character. Edition of 100, packaged in 7 inch sleeves with beautiful silk screened fold out poster that features all the (dutch) lyrics of the verses and drawings by Wouter Venema.
