First release of Keimpe Koldijk under the moniker of Barhûs. Barhûs is referring to the hamlet in which his parental house was situated. This place was his main source of inspiration, now looking at it from an entirely different perspective while living in the harbour city of Rotterdam.
In the improvised 'Vasteland' pieces minimal threads of slow-motion synths are processed through reverb and tape f/x. The carefully placed notes gradually take the listener through the reminiscences of past gaiety. Comparable to earlier works of Andrew Chalk or even Grouper. On 'Maastoren' Koldijk swaps the synths for a hazy organic throbbing guitar steadily navigating through thin clouds of tape noise.
Vasteland is a melancholy memorial which evokes images of abandoned farmhouses and kids playing in a car graveyard.
These sounds are carried on a beautiful shiny gold cassette and enveloped in a stunningly designed case.
